When Emma Scott tells a story I listen. I was beyond excited to dive in. It's so hard to put in to words how amazing this story is. Just like that I was enthralled into this into her her characters and their fascinating stories. Keeping this short and sweet. This book is breathtakingly beautiful. It brought out the sniffles and it made me so proud of the heroine. So many details reading intently is a must as this story is unfolding and it all links together with significance. Each one profound and meaningful.

Nik and Fiona were just love and magic. The trying times they went through my heart went out to them. They were wonderful having their own quirks and being different. I was truly captivated by the story. The writing as is strong and wonderful, you feel each character and moment like you were part. The themes are thoughtful and important as the it moves the plot. It moves you in an indirect way, telling you keep dreaming and hoping, love wholly and keep an open mind. There's a lot to take away. It's a story lingers on after the last page is turned. Even the title has a role in everything plus a cameo I approve of. Everything was beyond I could hope for. I hope to see these characters again! A definite must read from me.

This book was such a rare and precious treat for me to read. You know that feeling that you get when you read numerous books and then you read one that fulfills everything you are looking for in a book. This was "the one" for me, and I adored everything about it.

Nikolei Alexei Young seems almost magical. He has a special ability that he calls the ken, which feels like a curse to him. It is a sensory overload of everyone he comes in contact with. He sees peoples thoughts in color and at times can even taste it. --"So many people filled with so many emotions. They screamed their lives at me in a riot of colors, and filled my mouth with the bitter taste of their bad memories." It keeps him traveling, and helps him to win in underground poker games. The only constant place he ever returns to is to visit his mom in a facility like a nursing home. Even then he can not find any peace because his mom looks at him like he has the devil in him. Emma Scott does such an amazing job describing her characters, that I actually felt sorrow for Nik in my heart. These characters "felt" real to me.

Fiona Starling lives her life by her own rules. She was not always this way, at one point in her life, her spirit was broken and beaten. She was filled with doubt and self loathing. It is very commendable the way she was able to pull herself out of that bad place, and start her life over with no rules, living each day as it comes. "No rules. Live out loud. Find the sunshine."
When Fiona and Nik first meet, Nik sees the color pink surrounding Fiona, which means kindness, compassion, and charity. The major shocker to Nik is when he is around Fiona he feels at peace, she seems to block everyone else out. This is a new experience for him and gives him hope. Initially this relationship was only to last as long as Nik was in town. No expectations from either one of them, but the universe brought these two together for a reason.

I loved how this entire book kept me on edge, guessing and wondering how it was all going to come together. Even the secondary characters were unique and special in their own ways. It was amazing how Emma Scott was able to bring it all full circle. For Nik to realize his ken was a blessing and not a curse. For Fiona to realize how strong she truly was, and to learn to love herself for who she was. --"I had to trust, and the trouble with trusting people is either you did or you didn't. There was no guarantees you'd be rewarded or punished for that trust in the end."

Sugar & Gold is one of those stories I like to call 3D. Why? you ask; because I could feel the words with every single one of my senses as I was reading. I was able to smell the storm raging inside the story and even see the colors, and feel the love wrapping me in a big, tight hug. Just magical...

Nik is a man who's always been running. He has been trying to break free from his past and the ability to feel everything around him so vividly. He is a tortured guy who doesn't understand why he was chosen to suffer through all the ugly of this world. Until one day he meets a beautiful girl with pink colored hair that looks and feels like the calm after the storm.

Fiona is also running. She's counting down the days until she can escape to paradise. She lives a simple and happy life but even though she flee her past life which was full of pain, she still feels trapped by the memories.

Nik and Fiona met on a night where chaos was all around them, yet they felt like they had finally arrived home, in each other's presence. What came next was a whirlwind of passion and color so blinding, both of them were helpless to the emotions that were building and bringing them together.

Just like there are beautiful emotions between Nik and Fiona, there are also secrets. Heavy secrets neither of them are ready to unveil. But what happens when everything they been hiding comes crashing down?

This story was so different from anything else I've ever read and I loved it. I can always count on Emma Scott to bring me something unique and unexpected. I love that she doesn't follow a recipe when it comes to her books, she follows her heart and it shines through her beautiful stories. Her books are the kind that make people happy.

Sugar & Gold is the second book in this series, but it can totally be read as a standalone. You'll meet Evan while reading this book and you are going to love him. And if like me, you are immediately drawn to him and want to know more about his story you can buy How To Save A Life today.
